Integral (General) Yoga

This is an holistic style of yoga, developed from ancient yogic wisdom and adapted to the needs of modern living. It draws together teachings and practices from hatha, raja, karma, bhakti and jnana yoga in a fashion that is broad and flexible enough to cater to individual needs and preferences.

A Integral (General) Yoga class always aims to develop and deepen the student’s awareness of their own experience. This is done by creating an accepting and non-competitive environment in which to explore the practices. Through the development of awareness the student gains insight not only into the nature of the practices but into his or her own personality as well and embarks on a journey of self-discovery and transformation.

Integral (General) Yoga classes offer postures, breathing practices and meditation for students of all levels of ability.

A typical yoga class:

• Begins with a short relaxation to centre and forget the outside world for a while
• Moves into a series of yoga postures (asana) to relax the body, increase flexibility and remove energy blocks
• Further relaxes and focuses the mind while improving energy flow with breathing practices (pranayama)
• Before integrating and harmonising body, mind and spirit with deep relaxation (yoga nidra) and meditation

Private classes are tailored to suit the group or individual needs. Private classes can be booked as a one off or can be scheduled weekly, monthly etc for a regular practice.

Some of the many benefits you may receive include – greater flexibility and strength of bones, joints and muscles; improved posture and circulation; improve lung function; reduce stress, anxiety and depression; awaken creativity and inner potential; Connect with that inner safe, serene centre from which to live life using techniques from the ancient science of yogic psychology.

Core Yoga

This dynamic Yoga/Pilates fusion class that will strengthen and streamline the body, reduce tension, enhance posture, and cultivate a state of active relaxation in everyday life.

The Core Yoga program is a Yoga/Pilates fusion class that blends strengthening movements for the “core muscles” of the abdomen, low back and hips, stretches for key muscles that can reduce low back pain, headaches and tension, and breathwork to cleanse and purify the body/mind. Containing both the richness of the Yoga experience as well as modern strengthening and stretching techniques, this program is designed to create a vibrantly healthy body, develop body/mind awareness, reduce the risk of injury and low back pain, and enhance active daily life.

Core Yoga is designed to maintain the rich, relaxing experience of Yoga, while offering movements designed to strengthen the whole body, and in particular muscles of the back and abdomen in an environment that, with regular practice, teaches the body to move correctly in everyday life. Movements are practiced slowly and with precision, and the focus on breathwork not only assists in reducing pain, but also enhances the oxygenation of the blood and clears the mind.

Core Yoga is a rapidly growing specialty yoga practice. Core Yoga is a great method on its own, and also a great compliment to a regular yoga or exercise regime, and an intelligent way for people to begin their Yoga journey safely; with a foundation of strength, flexibility, and breath awareness. Restorative Yoga

Kerri has been trained by the expert in restorative yoga Judith Lasater and has acquired a Relax and Renew® Trainer Certificate to help you reach your true potential of joy by experiencing complete relaxation. If you're under stress, tired, injured or sore, this class will help restore your mind and body. No experience is required and this class is suitable for everyone. Restorative class numbers are limited due to the amount of props used ie bolsters, blankets so bookings are essential. On a full moon most classes will enjoy a restorative yoga class in the YPM studio.

Yin Yoga

Yin Yoga is a deeply nourishing style of yoga where our intention is aimed at balancing the flow of Qi (energy) in the body through asana, awareness of the meridians both yin and yang, acupressure points and the breath. Everything we see in the body is Yang and what we cannot see is Yin, so in Yin Yoga we are working with the deeper tissues of the body.

Therefor Yin postures focus on connective tissue eg ligaments, tendons and fascia and yang postures focus more on the softer more fluid muscles. In a Yin class you are encouraged to trust your instincts and adapt the practices to suit your own unique body.

A state of harmony can be achieved as we go deeper with our Yin practice and let go of our Yang outlook which is more often the state in which we operate in. I like to say while in our Yin Yoga practice we can return more to a “human being” instead of a “human doing”!

Zen Outdoor Yoga

These outdoor early morning classes are popular over the warmer months, running from October till May, and consist of vinyasa style salutes to the sun sequences, core strengthening exercises, with options for levels of intensity and finish with more lengthening postures to leave you ready to face all the day has to offer! Silence is encouraged throughout the class so you can simply focus on yourself, your movements and the beautiful surroundings. Bookings are essential and venue may change according to weather. Over winter these classes are held twice a week in the warmth of the studio at a later start time.

Classes are held year round and don't follow the school terms so nearly all of the classes are available over holiday periods. Individual programs can be also tailored to suit your needs. Please contact Kerri for more information. A pdf of current schedule is also available to download from the schedule page.
